Next America's Cup to be staged in Port Elizabeth, South Africa
One of our recent visitors to ABYC during the 2007 Mirror World Championships was so impressed with the sailing waters of Algoa Bay and friendly people of Port Elizabeth that he went and secured a tentative bid for staging the next America's Cup here in our bay.
John Donoghue has secured a commitment from every team in the running for the the America's Cup to lobby that they would like to sail in Africa.
As John says: "Removal of the Tank Farm and Manganese Ore berth will create an incredible area for the America's Cup Village. Couple that with the removal of the freeway and Freedom Statue and Port Elizabeth will become the number one watersport tourist destination in the world."

The Algoa Bay Yacht Club (ABYC) is based in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Port Elizabeth forms part of the Nelson Mandela Metropole. ABYC has been host to many national and international sailing events.
