Warning

Warning

Just imagine: Sitting on the deck, a cold frosty dripping by your side, sunshine and SUSHI.

Could make anyone forget that they had work to do, couldn't it?

I've had a few meals at ABYC, and they were enjoyable. The new menu is acceptable - no criticism in that regard.

What is annoying is the gate security which almost makes one feel that we should find somewhere else to eat.

It's a nuisance.

It's not that they are rude, but that we must sometimes sit in queues, or open the boot, or have them check inside the car, and other little 'nigglies'. (Especially in cold weather).

It's just easier, and less intrusive not to go.

As I said, I'm not a member, so maybe members with member's cards have an easier life, but the general public's perception might be a little like mine, and the catering business at a Club often can't rely only on the members, to make a good living.

I've found the club members and visitors to be friendly and helpful, and the views and ambience of the club are arguably the best in PE. The place should be a hive of activity, unless the Club's restrictions might prevent this.

I have on occasions been rather harshly told that I can't bring a camera into the harbour area. This means that I cannot record the beautiful views and boating activity. Although I have managed to persuade the security that I mean no harm, and won't be publishing any photos, this IS a further restriction. It especially would effect people who want to record special occasions.

Needless to say, I feel that if something was negotiated in this regard to allow freer access, it might be helpful to the Club.

As I say, these are an outsider's views, and might not be relevant to members.

Hope it is helpful

John

The security has 'relaxed' somewhat over recent months.

There, is of course, a solution - join the club, flash your card at security and entrance to the harbour is a lot easier.

John's letter dated 8/2/10 : As the harbour is considered an International Port of entry and thus treated same as any border post internationally, stricter measures to enter were implemented in all South African Ports.Perhaps one should try and convince the Security management to train their personnel to be better equipped to treat visitors and tourists
in a friendly manner and explain to visitors why it is the norm to do random searches of vehicles etc.
